Toile de Jouy, (French: “fabric of Jouy”, ) also called Jouy Print, cotton or linen printed with designs of landscapes and figures for which the 18th-century factory of Jouy-en-Josas, near Versailles, France, was famous.

 

This series subverts the traditional pastoral scenes of 18th century French Toile De Jouy fabrics by defacing their idylic

 

These are paintings on 18th Century “Toile de Jouy” fabric which depict French pastoral images. The idylic scenes have been defaced to demonstrate that everything is not rosy in the garden and that the world is on fire.

 

The mediums which I utilize play with a visual language of order and chaos. I explore the antithesis of structure and disorder by employing the use of repetitive pattern alongside abstracted painting.
